Tekelec Provides Mobile Number Portability to Manx Telecom, an O2-Owned Operator

Experience and Speed of Delivery Drive Deal

MORRISVILLE, NC--(Marketwire - November 11, 2009) - Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), the network signaling, mobile messaging and performance management company, today announced that it has deployed its mobile number portability solution for Manx Telecom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of O2, a Telefónica company. Manx Telecom, based in the Isle of Man, selected Tekelec for its rapid delivery and history of mobile number portability success.

Tekelec deployed the first integrated number portability solution in 1997 with Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), and today has 94 number portability customers in 32 countries, including nearly a dozen in Europe. Tekelec also has the largest market share for real-time connection number portability solutions -- 35 percent -- according to the Number Portability Research Note published by industry research and consultancy firm Analysys Mason.

Tekelec's mobile number portability solution is supported by its EAGLE® 5 signaling platform, which can also support signal transfer point (STP) functions, home location register (HLR) routing, signaling gateway, short message service (SMS) routing and other signaling-related functions.

"The versatility of the EAGLE 5 gives us the technology and flexibility we need to provide mobile number portability while watching the bottom line," said Roy Maddrell, mobile network manager of Manx Telecom. "Tekelec's approach also gives us the options to scale and add new capabilities as our customers' needs evolve."

Tekelec provides a unified platform that integrates advanced database management and signaling functions. This simplified approach provides superior throughput and avoids link congestion and bottlenecks in the network. The company's solution supports number portability for voice, SMS, multimedia messaging service (MMS) and pre-paid calls, and covers GSM, CDMA, fixed networks, and cable, as well as intra-carrier number retention.

"We make number portability reliable, seamless and transparent to subscribers making a call or sending an SMS," said Ron de Lange, executive vice president at Tekelec. "We are excited to expand our footprint across Europe."
