Data center managers agree that moving beyond Gigabit Ethernet is a key to enabling virtualization, cloud computing, and other key initiatives, but previous solutions have either been too complex or expensive to implement. With a new generation of low-power, 40nm 10GBase-T PHY solutions, switch and NIC vendors can now offer the performance of 10-Gigabit Ethernet with Ethernet's traditional ease of use and without undue power requirements.
