Teranetics, Cisco, Intel, the Linley Group, Mellanox, and Siemon Participate in 10-Gigabit Ethernet Speaker Forum at Interop

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - April 22, 2010) -  Teranetics, the leading provider of 10GBASE-T physical layer solutions, today announced that it will host a group of industry luminaries at Interop to discuss the future of 10-Gigabit Ethernet in the data center. The evening reception and speaker forum will take place in the Palm Room and Lounge at the Four Seasons Hotel from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM on April 27, 2010.

With the introduction of Teranetics' new 40nm 10GBase-T PHY, data center equipment vendors can now incorporate 10-Gigabit Ethernet connectivity into switches, adapters, and LAN on motherboards with dense, power-efficient designs. The speakers at this event will discuss the rise of 10-Gigabit Ethernet in the data center and will discuss how and where it is being implemented.

Featured speakers at the event include:

  • Sanjay Kasturia, Teranetics
  • Jag Bolaria, The Linley Group
  • Rupesh Chakkingal, Cisco
  • Dave Chalupsky, Intel
  • Valerie Maguire, Siemon
  • John Monson, Mellanox

Data center managers agree that moving beyond Gigabit Ethernet is a key to enabling virtualization, cloud computing, and other key initiatives, but previous solutions have either been too complex or expensive to implement. With a new generation of low-power, 40nm 10GBase-T PHY solutions, switch and NIC vendors can now offer the performance of 10-Gigabit Ethernet with Ethernet's traditional ease of use and without undue power requirements. According to the Dell'Oro Ethernet Switching Report, 10-Gigabit Ethernet will reach 29.8 million ports in 2014, out of which 22 million, or over 70 percent, will be copper-based (Source: Dell'Oro 5-Year Ethernet Switching Forecast, January 2010).

This week Teranetics announced the introduction of their third generation of 10GBase-T PHYs: the 40nm TN80XX 10GBase-T PHYs. This full-featured, full portfolio of Physical Layer (PHY) devices includes highly efficiently packaged and designed quad-port devices. This introduction intersects the industry's readiness to evolve from early adoption to mainstream proliferation. Teranetics is the only 10GBase-T vendor to successfully ship multiple generations of PHYs in commercial production.

"Our new 40-nanometer PHY is the first to deliver the power and density characteristics that will enable data center switches of 96 ports or more," said Sanjay Kasturia, CTO of Teranetics. "We look forward to bringing together our technology partners and customers to discuss the impact of this new technology on data center design and efficiency."
