In 1976, when social activist and entrepreneur Dame Anita Roddick opened her first store of The Body Shop® in a seaside town called Brighton in the UK, she could never have imagined that her vision would become a global phenomenon.

Today, The Body Shop is present in more than 60 countries across the world. With Canadians sharing a natural affinity to the core values of the brand, The Body Shop is proud to announce that it is celebrating 30 years of being the original, natural and ethical beauty brand in Canada in April 2010!

The Body Shop is still leading the way here in Canada and around the world. Innovation in delivering affordable, high-performance products that contain high-quality natural ingredients, coupled with cutting edge social and environmental campaigns is what keeps people coming back to The Body Shop. When White Musk® was launched 20 years ago, this floral musky fragrance was an instant bestseller and represented a landmark in the fragrance industry as the first cruelty-free musk fragrance in the market. It remains a must-have iconic fragrance.

In 2007 we celebrated 20 years of Community Trade — The Body Shop fair trade programme. We now work with over 25,000 people across the globe and more than 65% of our products contain at least one Community Trade ingredient, or come from a Community Trade supplier. Our programme ensures we not only get the best natural ingredients and accessories but also, by cutting out a middleman, this direct trade gives communities the means to build better lives for themselves.

In the past year, in more than 2,500 stores across the world, The Body Shop has raised more than $1.5 million dollars in its new campaign to help Stop Trafficking of Children & Young People. $350,000 of that total was raised by Canadian shops working with their customers. These funds support both the Somaly Mam Foundation internationally and Beyond Borders (ECPAT) here in Canada. This highly-successful campaign follows almost 10 years of campaigning against domestic violence, and previous environmental efforts such as "There Otter be a Law" to help save endangered species.
