The Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing Re-Opens for 16th Season With Fire and Ice

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - November 19, 2009) - The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is proud to continue to present a wintertime tradition in Philadelphia, the 16th anniversary season of the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing. It's time to Think Rink, as the Blue Cross RiverRink, located on Columbus Boulevard and Market Street, is the perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors and the cool way to stay fit!

The Blue Cross RiverRink will explore the magic of Fire and Ice, as it re-opens officially at 12 Noon on Friday, November 27, 2009 with the first skating session of the season. For the sixteenth season on Philadelphia's waterfront, the Blue Cross RiverRink continues to be located on Columbus Boulevard at Market Street Featuring an outdoor Olympic size rink overlooking the Delaware River, and an indoor heated facility with a snack bar, game room and more, the Blue Cross RiverRink, will open with a magical celebration fit for all ages with free activities for the entire family.

Give and Take Jugglers will kick off the official opening with a Fire on Ice Show welcoming everyone to another season. This magical show taking place at 12 Noon will include a number of illusions and the juggling of fire on center ice of the Blue Cross RiverRink. The troupe members will conduct juggling workshops for kids and create ambient entertainment throughout the rink facility.

Then at 1:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., members of Enchantment Theater will be on hand to conduct interactive magic shows. For almost 30 years, Enchantment Theatre Company has produced original theater for school groups and families. The Philadelphia-based company presents inspiring classic tales, using its signature blend of magic, mask, pantomime, puppetry, and original music.

The members of Enchantment Theater Company will bring a sample of their magic to the Blue Cross RiverRink to celebrate our opening day and promote their upcoming show called "Harold at the Purple Crayon" at the Prince Music Theater December 2, 2009 through January 3, 2010. This magical celebration continues with free face-painting and fun photos where guests to the RiverRink can dress up like a magician and get a free photo keepsake. Kids will also be able to participate in magic workshops or create a magic wand at a Make and Take craft station.

Then, at 2:30 p.m. there will be another Fire on Ice Show featuring magician and illusionist Joe Holiday. Joe Holiday is an award winning magician who has been working in the entertainment industry for over twenty five years, making hundreds of performances yearly for thousands of audiences all over the world. Headlining on major cruise ships and international illusion shows along with appearing for corporate and industrial companies, Joe has been hailed as the redefinition of "hip" in magic.

Once night falls, the magic continues with illusionist Tighe Swanson from, performing a third Fire on Ice show at center ice. puts on a wide array of live shows and productions, showcasing a plethora of outstanding, top-notch variety and specialty artists. Featuring the dangers of sideshow thrill acts, the mysteries of magic, the amazing skills and wonderment of the circus, the comedy and charm of old vaudeville, and the sensual beauty of has it all and will bring a sample of their act to the Blue Cross RiverRink for a Opening night.

Regular skating session hours at the Blue Cross RiverRink are Monday to Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Friday hours: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. Saturday hours are: 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. and Sunday hours are: 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Special Holiday Hours and other extended sessions are outlined at Skating admission is extremely affordable at $8 and skate rental is available for $3. Convenient parking is also available on site for only $10.

The rink season also features a live DJ every Friday and Saturday night from 9:00 p.m. - Midnight. Skating Lessons are available on Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. - 12 Noon. Special Sled Skating Sessions for people with disabilities are available Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Reservations for these special sessions are required.
