On the occasion of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards, Their Excellencies will host an Art Matters Forum. This forum, entitled Staging the Body: New Embodiments, New Dialogues, will enable 2008 recipients and other representatives of the performing arts industry to explore the following topics: How are new technologies and the merging of artistic disciplines shaping body languages? Are these new vehicles for self-expression blurring the lines between art forms? To what extent do they challenge the dialogue between the artist and the public?

Created by His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond, Art Matters provides a unique opportunity to bring together recipients, artists, academics and others to engage in a dialogue on cultural challenges in our society. More than 20 forums have already been held in Canada and abroad over the past two years.

Internet users may pursue the dialogue on and post their reactions to the governor general's videoblog and to Mr. Lafond's blog.

Media interested in covering this Art Matters forum are asked to contact the Rideau Hall Press Office.
