The Guelph Hydro Family of Companies is Ready For the Future

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 13, 2009) - The Guelph Hydro Inc. (GHI) board is pleased to announce that Ms. Jasmine Urisk has been appointed as board chair and Mr. Brian Cowan as vice-chair.

"This is an honour for which I am very grateful," commented the newly elected Ms. Urisk. "I am moving into the role of chair following Mr. Paul Truex, a passionate community leader who has served GHI and its family of companies with energy and vision. During his time on the board, Paul helped grow both GHI and GHESI into strong and well respected organizations here and across Ontario. Our community owes a great deal to Paul and his efforts to build the organizational capacity of our businesses."

GHI is the parent company of Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. (GHESI), a regulated utility that employs over 90 people and delivers electricity to over 48,000 users in the Guelph and Rockwood area. GHI also owns Ecotricity Guelph Inc., a clean and renewable energy development company.

Ms. Urisk brings to the GHI board a wide range of professional skills and personal experience. With a Master of Science in Resource Development from the University of Guelph, Ms. Urisk has worked in the energy and environmental sectors for nearly 30 years. She has served on many boards in a variety of roles, including chair. Like four other directors on the GHI and GHESI boards, Ms. Urisk is a Chartered Director from McMaster University. Collectively, the GHI board is committed to governing well and in the best interests of the Guelph community.

"We have lots of opportunities ahead," said incoming vice-chair Mr. Cowan. "The Green Energy Act and Guelph's Community Energy Plan are opening doors that didn't even exist 24 months ago. It is critical for us to deal with the changes facing utilities today and continue to look for new ways in which we can serve and help grow our community."

"The future is bright for GHI and our family of companies," continued Ms. Urisk. "We play a very important role connecting Ontario's complex energy grid to every home, business, school, community centre and place of worship in our great community. While we are proud of this long tradition of safe and reliable service, we are also looking to the future. We are excited about the new energy generation and distribution technologies and how they will enhance the role we play in our community. The GHI board is committed to ensuring that through all these changes, the City of Guelph continues to have energy systems that meet the needs of our customers, our shareholder and the environment."
