LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - January 26, 2010) - The Honorable Steve Poizner, Commissioner, California Department of Insurance (CDI), will deliver the address "Bringing California Back from the Brink" to TOWN HALL Los Angeles on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.

The California Department of Insurance aegis includes a wide range of consumer protective services from insurance fraud to terror financing probes to natural disasters. In the wake of the Humboldt County and subsequent Haiti earthquake, Poizner said, "After quakes of this magnitude, it's always a good idea for Californians to examine plans to survive a major quake, to take the steps to minimize damage and do what they can to make sure they can recover any losses due to earthquakes. People also must realize that earthquake insurance is not part of a typical homeowner's insurance policy -- it must be purchased separately."

Steve Poizner took the Oath of Office as the elected California Insurance Commissioner on January 8, 2007. Prior to this he founded several technology companies including SnapTrack, life-saving technology that put GPS receivers into 700 million cell phones worldwide. From 2001-02, he served in the White House as the Director of Critical Infrastructure Protection in the National Security Council, and was responsible for emergency communications planning for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and protecting internet/banking system/power grids from cyber attacks. Poizner is a 2010 Republican candidate for California governor.

The California Department of Insurance is the largest consumer protection agency in the state. CDI has more than 1,200 positions, a $200 million budget and regulates almost one-tenth of the California economy. Currently the CDI licenses over 1,500 insurance companies and more than 340,000 agents and brokers.
