The Ireland Fund of Canada is now receiving donations in memory of Peggy Delaney to support this new bursary.

Peggy Delaney was a key player in Canada's Irish community and has been an arts enthusiast all her life. At the age of six, she won the Golden Voice of Ireland contest from the Irish Press newspaper and as a young woman, she was awarded scholarships from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Abbey Theatre School of Acting.

In Canada, Peggy played a significant role in the development and promotion of Irish culture and was a key force in the ongoing advancement of the Toronto Irish Players theatre group and the Rose of Tralee.

Peggy was also the first Executive Director of the Ireland Fund of Canada and has been a major force with the Fund since 1978. One of her proudest moments was her work with the Fund bringing the Irish Special Olympic Team to Toronto and Collingwood.

Peggy recently served on the Board of Directors for the Ireland Park Foundation, helping to establish Ireland Park, Toronto.

The Ireland Fund of Canada works to develop community and culture, facilitate reconciliation and enhance education. Arts initiatives, programs and cultural events continue to be in the forefront of support of the Fund. The establishment of the Peggy Delaney Irish Arts Bursary is a very fitting tribute to Peggy Delaney who contributed so much to Irish culture in Canada and who passed away on April 5 2010.
