The Largest Gingerbread House and Festive Tree Debuts In Vancouver

Hyatt Regency Vancouver and The Make-A-Wish Foundation® Believe in Making Wishes Come True

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 28, 2008) -

Editors Note: A video is included with this press release.

The most decadent lane in the city, filled with pounds of eye-candy and signature treats was launched in front of hundreds at Hyatt Regency Vancouver. Once home to the world's tallest gingerbread man and now home to the city's tallest festive tree, Gingerbread Lane welcomes over 20,000 visitors each year and has earned its place in the Guinness Book of World Records. More than an attraction, Gingerbread Lane has helped to raise thousands for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to date. "Gingerbread Lane is such a great family event and we are delighted to be part of it again this year," says Ross Hetherington, Executive Director of Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) of BC & Yukon.

Families in Vancouver have enjoyed the intricately designed homes on display for the past seventeen years and have been equally supportive of the partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation by making a donation when voting for their favourite home. "We are thrilled to be in a position where we are able to partner such a celebrated event with a great cause," says Steve McNally, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Vancouver. "Through this initiative, we have been able to assist with wish granting over the years and last year we also arranged for Jennifer Aniston to make a special presentation at the wish ceremony. This is a moment that will forever impact that child's life."

This year Hyatt Regency Vancouver added a few more pounds of sugar to the lobby and a few more sweet touches to the decor. Chef Hans Lutz and his talented team have once again designed and baked this year's home measuring 11 feet high and 16 feet wide. This winter wonderland was made with over 2 kg of brown sugar, 5 kg icing sugar, 4 kg margarine, 4 kg molasses, 1 kg corn syrup, 16 kg of pastry flour and a few kilos of the team's secret ingredients. For the sweet touches on the exterior, 1400 egg whites, 300 pounds of icing sugar and 500 pounds of gingerbread dough. In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Make-A-Wish Canada, the culinary team specially created two Make-A-Wish families made of gingerbread and topped with loads of icing, picture perfect for each photo opportunity. Other sweet treats being served on Gingerbread Lane this year include being whisked away to any West Coast Hyatt property awarded to Goldilocks Bakery-for winning the Gingerbread display in this year's competition, and the People's Choice Award recipient will enjoy a Winter Escape, courtesy of Hyatt Regency Vancouver. Another recent addition to this year's lane is the energy saving holiday tree which is presently 34 floors above Burrard and offers four different views.
