The Majority of Software Quality Assurance Professionals Work Overtime

According to a Recent Survey From SQE and Akimbi Systems, Software Development Professionals Are Overwhelmed by the Growing Complexity of Test Environments

ANAHEIM, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 15, 2005 --STARWEST 2005, Booth 67 -- Akimbi Systems, a pioneer in the complex configuration capture-and-restore (C3R) system market, announced today the results of a recent survey that found 65 percent of respondents are spending up to 20 additional hours per week in the office as a direct result of the increasing complexity of software development and test environments.

Last month, in conjunction with Software Quality Engineering (SQE), Akimbi polled more than 500 QA professionals and asked respondents if they were personally spending additional time in the office because of the number and complexity of system configurations they must deal with. Some respondents went so far as to say their families don't remember them anymore, a humorous response that thinly veils a growing problem in the software development field.

Typically, the process of creating test configurations has remained largely manual, with developers having to gather machines, install operating systems, install and configure applications and establish inter-machine connections; or wait days for the IT organization to do it on their behalf. Additionally, with an increase in the number of complex distributed systems, these tasks have grown extremely tedious, time consuming and costly. As a result, organizations either restrict the scope of testing to maintain acceptable software development cycle times or they absorb the increasing software development costs of drawn-out projects.

Akimbi launched its flagship product, the Akimbi Slingshot C3R system, in September to address this exact pain point, enabling software development and test teams to shave months off software development projects. With Akimbi Slingshot, organizations can now simplify and accelerate this process, allowing developers to more quickly certify software code across a greater number of potential system environments.

"As this survey indicates, QA professionals are spending an inordinate amount of effort on manual or ad hoc tasks, which not only consumes excessive amounts of time, but also prevents them from performing tasks that would be of higher value to the organization," said Melinda Wilken, Vice President, Marketing of Akimbi Systems. "With Akimbi Slingshot, software professionals can now accomplish, for themselves, in just 30 seconds what would otherwise take three or four hours of tedious effort. The net result for the organization is the ability to build higher quality software systems, more quickly and with a lower total cost than previously possible."
