The Senators In Your Community From June 5 to June 11

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 5, 2009) - The Ottawa Senators' year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club's community schedule from Friday, June 5, to Thursday, June 11.

Spartacat appearances

Spartacat, the Senators' ambassador of fun, will visit the Canoe For Kids (Mooney's Bay, Ottawa)  charity event in support of Christie Lake Camp on Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to noon. Also on Saturday, Sparty will appear at the Barrhaven Run for Roger's House (1581 Greenbank Road, Nepean, Ont.) from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Spartacat visits Scotiabank Read to Succeed winning classes

Scotiabank Read to Succeed is a literacy initiative presented free of charge by the Ottawa Senators to assist elementary school teachers in motivating their students to read on a daily basis through incentives and rewards. Each month, registered classes that reach their reading goals are entered into a draw to win one of six Sparty parties, which includes a classroom visit from Spartacat, pizza courtesy of Pizza Pizza and juice courtesy of Coca-Cola. Teachers interested in registering their classes for Scotiabank Read to Succeed or any other Sens@School program can do so by visiting the Senators website at

This week one lucky class from each of the following schools will host a Sparty Party won through the Scotiabank Read to Succeed program:

Monday, June 8 (11 a.m. to noon)
Munster Elementary School (7816 Bleeks Road, Munster, Ont.)

Wednesday, June 10 (11 a.m. to noon)
Our Lady of Fatima (2135 Knightsbridge Road, Ottawa)

Please contact the Ottawa Senators communications department prior to your visit at any of our community events.
