The Senators in Your Community From June 12 to June 18

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 12, 2009) - The Ottawa Senators' year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club's community schedule from Friday, June 12, to Thursday, June 18.

Spartacat appearances

Spartacat, the Senators' ambassador of fun, will join the Sens Street Tour at the CFB Petawawa Homecoming Family Day on Friday, June 12, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. While this event is open exclusively to Canadian Forces and Defence Team members, the media is welcome to attend.

Spartacat visits Scotiabank Read to Succeed winning classes

Scotiabank Read to Succeed is a literacy initiative presented free of charge by the Ottawa Senators to assist elementary school teachers in motivating their students to read on a daily basis through incentives and rewards. Each month, registered classes that reach their reading goals are entered into a draw to win one of six Sparty parties, which include a classroom visit from Spartacat, pizza courtesy of Pizza Pizza and juice courtesy of Coca-Cola. Teachers interested in registering their classes for Scotiabank Read to Succeed or any other Sens@School program can do so by visiting the Senators website at

This week, one lucky class from each of the following schools will host a Sparty Party won through the Scotiabank Read to Succeed program:

Monday, June 15 (11 a.m. to noon)

Arklan Community Public School (123 Patterson Crescent, Carleton Place, Ont.)
