This July at the Second City Marks the World Premiere of... Stephen Harper! The Musical

Politics is Theatre. Theatre is Politics.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 21, 2010) - Award-winning comedy siblings The Shehori Brothers are back, and this time they've teamed up with the Second City's resident musical prodigy Jay McCarrol. The end result is Stephen Harper! The Musical – a melodic, satirical romp through the trials and tribulations of everyone's most beloved/hated/well-coiffed Prime Minister. Oh, and the music's wickedly contagious. Seriously, you may never get it out of your head.

No pressure on the boys, but this limited engagement is the first outside show to ever (!) be given a regular evening slot on the Second City Toronto's mainstage. Fortunately, the brothers were smart enough to assemble some of the country's most gifted musical comedy performers: Ashley Botting (The Second City), Trevor Martin (Evil Dead The Musical), Paul O'Sullivan (The Producers) and James Roussel (Air Farce). When these four larger-than-life voices join up, they make the Beach Boys sound like the Pet Shop Boys. Admittedly the latter are still a pretty good band. But you catch our drift.

Stephen Harper! The Musical is a hilarious, equal-opportunity rabble-rouser, geared at charming the pants off pro- and anti-Harperites alike (note: figuratively speaking). The biggest bonus of all: you don't have to know a thing about Canadian politics to enjoy it. Praise the ghost of John Diefenbaker for that. Coincidentally Stephen Harper! The Musical premieres 10 years to the day after the Shehori Brothers' first musical, the Canadian Comedy Award-nominated Mikayla (which also starred James Roussel in the lead!).

Although the official opening night is July 13th, there will be several early-bird performances the week before for Just for Laughs Toronto 2010. Same venue n' everything. Yep, Stephen Harper! The Musical is part of Just for Laughs too! What better way to blow off a little political steam after the G20 Summit?
