Thousands Vying for Top Honors at TiEcon 2010

Conference Spotlights Most Enterprising Companies on the Heels of Spectacular Success of Past Winners

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - April 1, 2010) - TiE Silicon Valley announced today that it has received almost four thousand submissions from companies vying for top honors at TiEcon 2010 and to win the title of being in the TiE50. TiEcon 2010 will take place at the Santa Clara Convention Center, May 14-15. TiEcon brings together a diverse and dynamic group of leaders from business, technology, venture capital, and media for two days of education, networking and deal making. The theme of TiEcon 2010, "It's in your DNA," emphasizes qualities inherent in all successful entrepreneurs and highlights those who have thrived despite the economic downturn.

For the second year TiEcon will showcase the most enterprising start-up companies that demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and an enduring commitment combining their cutting-edge and sometime radical ideas with their determination to create innovative companies. The winner of TiE50 will be selected from five industry segments: BioSciences, Cleantech, Internet, Software and Wireless.

Mimosa Systems, a winner of TiE 50 in 2009, is one example of a company that proved that good ideas are recognized even in a difficult environment. Santa Clara, California based Mimosa Systems, Inc., a leader in enterprise-class content archiving solutions, was acquired by Iron Mountain in February 2010 for approximately $112 million in cash. T.M. Ravi, the Founder and former CEO of Mimosa, said, "The selection of Mimosa for the TiE50 award was a further endorsement of our steadfast belief in the validity of our idea and commitment to building a solid business. TiE has been the source of encouragement and mentorship, and being recognized for that achievement, by the caliber of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists that TiE attracts is an achievement that everyone at Mimosa will cherish."

Another TiE50 winner who made headlines was privately-held Kazeon Systems, Inc., a leading Information Management and eDiscovery software provider for Corporations. Kazeon, acquired by EMC in September 2009, enables EMC to deliver the first integrated eDiscovery, Archiving and Information Governance offering. Sudhakar Muddu, Founder and former CEO of Kazeon, said, "When we started the company in 2003 we started with an idea and a conviction that we can take the concept and create a sustainable business. It was an honor for everyone in the Kazeon team to be recognized by a body (TiE) that attracts the who's who among entrepreneurs and Venture Capitalists. The mentorship provided by the network at TiE and the exposure that TiE50 provided have been critical to the success of Kazeon."

"We are pleased at the response to TiE50 just one year after its inception. We are thrilled at the success that last year's winners have enjoyed and want 2010 to be a year to build on that success," said Vish Mishra, President of TiE Silicon Valley and Venture Partner at Clearstone Venture Partners, a leading Silicon Valley Venture Capital company. "TiEcon is the ideal forum for all entrepreneurs to learn from other founders and industry experts. It also provides the ideal forum to find and build relationships with potential investors, mentors, partners and customers."
