Thunderbird Commences Production in Kansas

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 16, 2007) - Thunderbird Energy Corp. (TSX VENTURE:TBD)("Thunderbird") announced today that the initial well drilled on its Rush County, Kansas light oil project (the #1 Tammen Well) has commenced commercial production. During the initial 4 days of production the well has averaged approximately 120 barrels of oil per day. The second well drilled (the #2 Tammen) is scheduled to go online later this week.

The #1 and #2 Tammen wells are the first 2 wells drilled in an ongoing 6 well drilling program. Thunderbird is funding the costs of 3 of the six wells and will earn a 50% working interest in all six wells. The 3rd and 4th wells in the program commenced drilling in December and were recently completed on schedule; however both have been abandoned as dry holes. The fifth well is expected to spud later this week.

"We are very pleased with the initial production rates from our #1 Tammen well and are eagerly awaiting initial production numbers from #2." stated Cameron White, President of Thunderbird Energy. "While it is much too early to determine the long term production profile, the well has far exceeded our expectations for its initial production rates. We are disappointed with the 2 dry holes, but with each well drilled we learn a great deal more about the characteristics of the field, which will help in selecting future locations."

Thunderbird Energy is a Canadian based oil and gas company that, in addition to the Kansas project, owns a 50% interest in the Gordon Creek producing natural gas field in the State of Utah, USA. Thunderbird's other holdings include a New Brunswick oil and gas exploration project adjacent to the Stoney Creek field.
