Currently making up the Goodman family are Marin Mazzie (Diana), Jason Danieley (Dan), Meghann Fahy (Natalie) and Kyle Dean Massey (Gabe). Previously, those roles were filled by Alice Ripley (who won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for the part), Brian d'Arcy James, Jennifer Damiano and Massey (who took over the role in January).

Next to Normal revolves around the Goodman family: Diana, a mother struggling with worsening bipolar disorder; Dan, a husband who is in an ever-worsening state of denial; Natalie, their 16-year-old daughter experiencing new love; and Gabe, their 18-year-old son just trying to deal with everything going on around him. The musical was nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 2009 and won three, including Best Original Score.
