TicketNews Unveils Industry's First Ticket Ranking System

Objective Methodology Measures Success of Event Ticket Sales

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - April 24, 2008) - TicketNews today introduced the ticket industry's first and only ticket ranking system. TicketNews, a entity, and leading ticket industry news source, unveiled a methodology which will rank top events and top sellers on a weekly basis. (

TicketNews top events and top sellers will provide power scores, the measure by which rankings are determined. Power scores add value to the reader's experience, by distinguishing ticket sales leaders in specific categories. Within each category, a power score represents the percent contribution of a particular seller or event with the sum of all power scores equaling one-hundred. Power scores compare events and sellers within, and not across, categories. Most major events and sellers appear in more than one category. In a single week, a major event or seller can have up to three unique power scores rankings. "Since December of 2006, TicketNews top events and top sellers exclusive rankings have provided weekly data on ticket market leadership," stated Crystal Astrachan, publisher of TicketNews. "Power scores bring an added dynamic to the data analysis of the secondary ticket market."

"A power score ranking has the ability to illustrate the gap that can exist between first and second place," noted Astrachan. "For example, Ticketmaster is consistently ranked at the top of the charts ( Last week, its power score was 49.30; Stubhub, in second place, was far behind Ticketmaster with a power score of 8.11."

Top Sellers

Every Wednesday, TicketNews ranks the top ten primary and the top twenty secondary and combined ticket sellers. Top seller power scores are based on web traffic received by a ticket seller's website. Multiple factors obtained from independent resources such as Hitwise and comScore are used to calculate top seller power scores:

1) Number of unique visitors (IP addresses visiting a website in a 24-hour period).

2) Number of visits (a series of one or more page requests by a visitor without 30 consecutive minutes of inactivity).

3) Page views (the average number of unique pages viewed by a unique visitor).

Power scores are constantly examined to determine if they are the best estimates of the number of ticket transactions. Our power scores are highly correlated with the number of transactions from websites powered by the TicketNetwork Exchange™."

Top Events

Every Monday, TicketNews ranks the top ten events in the following categories: concerts, sports, theater, Broadway, and Las Vegas; additionally, the top twenty combined events are ranked. Top events power scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world's largest secondary market exchange. "Since TicketNews began ranking events, 'Wicked' has consistently dominated the top events chart and is often used as a benchmark for success," stated Astrachan. "For 12 of the past 20 weeks, 'Wicked' has held the position of number 1 in the rankings, and has been second only to the Jonas Brothers, Jimmy Buffett, Hannah Montana, Green Bay Packers and the Super Bowl.
