Tilera Names Industry Veteran Omid Tahernia CEO

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - September 25, 2007) - Tilera Corporation, a fabless semiconductor company developing the breakthrough Tile Architecture™ processor family, today announced that it has taken another step toward building out a large-scale business by appointing industry veteran Omid Tahernia, 47, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tilera, effective October 1. Tahernia was previously the vice president and general manager of the Processing Solutions Group at Xilinx, Inc. He succeeds Devesh Garg, 42, who has returned to Bessemer Venture Partners, where he was employed prior to Tilera.

"The proliferation of technologies like HD content, video on demand, intelligent networking and the wireless delivery of data has created an overwhelming demand for more compute power. The entire market is moving to multicore-based designs to address the need for more processing power, but have fallen short by implementing designs based on old architectures," says Tahernia. "The Tile Architecture and its Multicore Development Environment, is positioned to be the leading next generation processor technology."

Tahernia comes to Tilera with 24 years of broad industry experience running large-scale, high volume businesses across all areas of the enterprise including hardware, software and semiconductor manufacturing -- both in the U.S. and abroad. He was most recently on the Xilinx executive team which he joined in 2004, serving as vice president and general manager of the Processing Solutions Group, a business unit focused on configurable processing, DSP and embedded processors, a major business thrust for Xilinx. In this role, Tahernia drove the vision, business and product strategy including the recent introduction of the first low-end FPGA chipset focused on high performance DSP, successfully doubling DSP revenue.

"I wish to thank Devesh for his many contributions to Tilera," says Rob Chandra, Managing Partner, Bessemer Venture Partners. "I am thrilled to have a person of Omid's caliber and track record of success now leading Tilera to its next growth phase. Omid's track record and experience with U.S. and global customers will be a great asset."

Prior to joining Xilinx, Tahernia held a variety of positions at Motorola including running a $1 billion wireless chipset business in the company's Semiconductor unit, as the vice president and general manager of the Wireless and Mobile Systems Division.

Tahernia began his career in 1984 at Motorola where he held various management positions in Motorola's Paging Group. Tahernia holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He holds 13 patents.
