- Zone open for expansion north, south, east and west - First four 2009 holes at Letitna have all intersected strong mineralization - Additional assays now pending

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 7, 2009) - Tirex Resources Ltd. ("Tirex") (TSX VENTURE:TXX) is pleased to announce initial assays from the start of 2009 drilling in the Letitna Zone at the Mirdita VMS Project in Albania. Highlights include a 35.1 metre (115 ft) section grading 1.25% Copper, 0.42% Zinc and 0.9 g/t Gold including 8.0 metres (26 ft) grading 1.85% Copper, 1.39% Zinc and 1.6 g/t Gold in drill hole M09-38 and 6.2 metres (20 ft) grading 0.18% Copper, 6.34% Zinc, 17.4 g/t Silver and 1.4 g/t Gold in drill hole M09-39.

Tirex has drilled four holes in 2009 at Letitna to date and the zone remains completely open for expansion to the north, south, east and west. Holes MR09-40 and MR09-41 also both intersected mineralization and assays are pending.

Drill hole MR09-38 was the second hole drilled on the Letitna target area on the Mirdita project and intersected the zone 40m downdip of the first hole, MR08-37, which was drilled in 2008 (see Tirex News Release dated January 13, 2009). Drill hole MR09-39 was drilled 25m south of MR08-37 and drill hole MR09-40 was drilled 25m north of MR08-37. Drill hole MR09-41 was drilled slightly north of and 50m west of MR09-40. Assays for drillholes MR09-40 and -41 are pending.

The mineralized zone intersected by hole MR09-39 was interrupted by a series of post mineralization dikes that appear to have locally disrupted the mineralization resulting in the two sets of mineralized intersections reported above.

Bryan Slusarchuk, CEO, states, "Letitna, home to an extensive airborne electromagnetic anomaly identified by Tirex, is one of the areas in the Mirdita District with very significant tonnage and grade potential. All of the holes Tirex has drilled at Letitna have intersected strong mineralization and the zone is completely open for expansion in every direction. Assays from additional Tirex drill holes at Letitna are pending."

Tirex is a company purpose-built to explore and develop the large 352 square kilometer Mirdita Property in Albania. The nature of the VMS mineralization in this District provides Tirex investors with exposure to a high grade basket of metals: Copper, Zinc, Gold and Silver. The property is readily accessible by paved and gravel roads and is located 70 km north of the capital city of Tirana. The property covers the core of the historically productive Mirdita VMS base metal district. It represents an opportunity to explore Copper, Zinc, Gold and Silver zones that were previously partially mined, explored or evaluated at lower metal prices, and provides an opportunity to apply modern exploration techniques toward the discovery of new VMS deposits and extensions of known zones. In addition to the 17 historical deposits identified by previous state-run exploration, Tirex has identified numerous high priority exploration targets resulting from the 2007 airborne geophysical survey, ongoing ground geophysics, geological mapping and other field work. The Mirdita exploration project is managed by an experienced team of Canadian geologists and other professionals, and several senior Albanian geologists, geophysicists and surveyors.

John Nicholson, P.Geo., a Qualified Person under the meaning of Canadian National Instrument 43-101 and Mirdita Project Manager, is responsible for the technical content of this news release. Drill core was HQ size (6.35 cm diameter) and BTW size (4.20 cm diameter). Half core samples were collected with a rock saw, tagged for identification and securely stored at the Tirex base camp until shipment. A total of 5% assay standards and 5% blanks were inserted into the sample shipment as a quality control measure in addition to the internal quality control measures applied by the laboratory. All samples were shipped directly to ALS Chemex Labs in North Vancouver, Canada where they were dried, weighed, crushed and pulverized. Splits of each pulp were then analysed for 51 elements by ICP Spectrometry and assayed for copper, lead, zinc, silver and gold by standard assay methods.

As required under Albanian Mining Law, Tirex recently reduced the area of its Mirdita exploration concessions then immediately applied for and has been granted a new concession. As a consequence, Tirex's 344km2 Mirdita project has now been expanded to 352km2.

Further details on the company and the Mirdita Project can be found on the Tirex website at www.TirexResources.com.
