Top North American Electrical Utilities Rate SUBNET's Inaugural User Group Conference a Huge Success!

SUBNET Solutions Inc. (SUBNET) hosts inaugural user group conference focused on making substations more intelligent.

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 12, 2009) - The majority of the top 10 Fortune 500 utility companies traveled to Atlanta, Georgia last month to learn about the latest advancements in smart grid technologies. Despite budget cuts to training, conferences and travel, SUBNET's inaugural user group conference was sold out, exceeding all expectations in a time when many conferences are poorly attended.

Companies including Duke Energy, Dominion Resources, Southern Company, PG&E, TVA and many others gathered for three days in the heart of Stone Mountain Park, Georgia. Attendees took in product demonstrations, industry best-practices presentations and participated in smart grid collaboration workshops.

Featured keynote presenters included Ray King, Director of Utility Industry Solutions for Microsoft and Erich Gunther, Chairman and CTO of EnerNex Corporation. Mr. Gunther provided insight into the background of NERC CIP, and discussed where utilities can expect to see regulations going. Other presentation topics included:

  • Benefits of a Unified Substation Intelligence Architecture
  • The Smart Grid Journey with SUBNET
  • Implementing a NERC CIP Solution
  • Vendor Partnership as an Enterprise Advantage
  • Standards and the Necessary Process for Seamless Integration
  • Smart Grid Vision in the Desert

A number of announcements, including revised product names, were communicated during the conference.

SUBNET SEL Relay Data Emulator is SUBNET's latest software tool that enables utility personnel to bench-test different substation configurations and systems by simulating SEL relays.

New product names:

  • SubSTATION Server formerly known as SubstationSERVER.NET
  • PowerSYSTEM Server formerly known as SubstationSERVER.NET Enterprise Edition
  • PowerSYSTEM Center formerly known as EnterpriseSERVER.NET

The event featured well-received demonstration stations, with actual server racks available at the conference for hands-on evaluations.

The Sunday preceding the conference kick-off featured SUBNET hands-on product training. Training courses included new SubSTATION Explorer 2 HMI and SubSTATION Server.

"The inaugural SUBNET User Group Conference is another way SUBNET is listening to its customers", comments Brian Neufeld, Director of Marketing for SUBNET. "Customers asked for this event and their attendance alone is the major success factor for the event. The experience and expertise at the conference was very collaborative and inspiring to those that attended."

SUBNET's next user group conference is being planned for the fall of 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona. For more information, visit SUBNET's website at http://www.SUBNET.com.
