Transport Canada: Appointment to VIA Rail Canada Inc.

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 19, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird, today announced the appointment of Mr. Jean-Martin Masse to the board of directors of VIA Rail Canada Inc. for a period of four years.

"I am pleased that Mr. Masse has agreed to serve on the board of VIA Rail Canada Inc.," said Minister Baird. "VIA Rail plays an important role in linking Canadian communities to one another and I am confident that Mr. Masse's experience in business, law and project management will be a great asset to the board going forward."

Having obtained his Law degree from Universite de Montreal in 1988, Mr. Masse was called to the Quebec Bar in 1989. He earned his master's degree in business administration from Universite de Sherbrooke in 2002. In 2000, he was hired as Vice-President of legal and corporate affairs at Zoom Media, one of Canada's leading advertising and marketing companies. In 2004, Mr. Masse joined Artificial Mind & Movement (A2M), the largest independent video game developer in Canada, where he is currently Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel.

VIA Rail Canada Inc., a Crown corporation created in 1977, operates Canada's national passenger rail service. The board of directors is responsible for overseeing the business activities and other affairs of the corporation.
