Trelawney Mining Intersects 36.67 g/t Au Over 0.66 Metres in Chester 1 Zone and a New Zone With 54.05 g/t Au Over 0.43 Metres

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 18, 2010) - Trelawney Mining and Exploration Inc. (the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:TRR) announces the results of the recently completed 1,700 metre drill program on its Chester Project located halfway between Timmins and Sudbury in Northern Ontario.

The program consisted of five diamond drill holes testing the Chester-1 Zone. The area tested was up to 100 metres below historical exploration. A longitudinal section showing the drill hole locations is attached and available on the website.

Greg Gibson, Trelawney's President & CEO commented, "This drill program has met our objective of demonstrating that the mineralized system now extends up to 100 metres below the historical exploration containing grades and widths consistent with historical data. The results of this early drilling are extremely encouraging to us, as we intersected grade in all of the four holes something that is not common when drilling narrow vein targets. One prominent mine in Timmins worked on the basis that if you hit grade in one in five holes you would drift on it. With our continued exploration we believe that the historical resource can be expanded to extend the life of the proposed mining of this deposit. What is also exciting about this drill program is the fact that the intersection of a new zone of holes north of the Chester 1 Zone highlights the potential for our project to host new zones with additional exploration."

The diamond drill has now been mobilized to the west end of the Chester-2 Zone to conduct exploration drilling on targets identified by the ongoing compilation work. A second diamond drill is currently been mobilized and will test various exploration targets identified from the ongoing compilation work and confirmation holes on various known zones. Additional ongoing geophysics is continuing on the property. A map indicating the location of the main mineralized zones is located on the Company's website –

Trelawney has implemented a quality-control, quality assurance program to ensure best practice in the sampling and analysis of the drill core. Assays have been completed using a standard fire assay with a 30 gram aliquot and an AA finish. Samples with assay results above 5.0 g/t are re-analyzed using a gravimetric finish. Any intervals showing visible gold as well as select intersections, based upon visual inspection of the core, are analyzed using the pulp metallic method. NQ size drill core is saw cut, and half the drill core is sampled in standard intervals. The remaining half of the core is stored in a secure location. The drill core is transported in security-sealed bags to the Accurassy preparation lab in Sudbury, Ontario by Trelawney personnel. Accurassy is an ISO/IEC 17025 certified laboratory by the Standards Council of Canada. In addition to quality assurance controls at the laboratory, blanks and certified standards have been inserted into the sample stream at random intervals.

David Beilhartz, Vice President, Exploration for the Company, a Qualified Person under 43-101, has prepared or supervised the preparation of the scientific or technical information for the property and verified the data disclosed in this press release.
