Tripwire Announces Support for BMC Service Automation

Tripwire and BMC Software Provide Powerful Solution to Achieve and Maintain a Known, Good and Compliant State in the Data Center

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - November 2, 2007) - Tripwire, Inc. today announced its support for BMC Service Automation strategy, automating continuous compliance across the data center which works hand in hand with BMC Service Automation solutions such as BMC Atrium 2.0 and BMC Run Book Automation (RBA). Tripwire Enterprise 7 is the first solution to bring continuous IT operational, regulatory and security compliance across heterogeneous IT environments. Coupled with BMC Solutions, Tripwire Enterprise 7 helps IT achieve complete Service Automation, helping the enterprise achieve and maintain a known, trusted and compliant state.

"BMC Service Automation is a strategy that links people, process and technology to create a tightly integrated, automated service delivery capability," said Mary Morgan, Senior Program Executive, BMC. "This strategy ensures that each individual technology investment works in unison to help IT reach its long-term goals of complete Service Automation. One of BMC's closest partners, Tripwire is fundamental to a successful Service Automation strategy as it provides service-level compliance, allows IT to leverage ITIL® v3 and other best practices to gain an understanding of the environment, and controls change with policy-based actions."

Enterprises who have integrated Tripwire and BMC solutions are realizing sustained operational, security and regulatory compliance. Noridian Mutual Insurance, a multi-faceted corporation providing private health coverage, life insurance, and administrative services, has deployed both Tripwire and BMC Solutions to continuously meet its compliance requirements. Using Tripwire Enterprise to automatically reconcile production changes with its change request system, BMC Remedy, Noridian ensures acceptable risk safeguards exist as mandated by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). According to Mike Gratz, Assistant Vice President of Information Systems at Noridian, "With independent verification of approved change and automated investigation of unauthorized change, the BMC-Tripwire integration allows us to continuously demonstrate compliance with our change management process. This visibility and control over all IT change enables a comprehensive IT Service Management environment."

Tripwire works in conjunction with BMC Software solutions to automate detection of unauthorized change across the service delivery stack, provide real-time and historical compliance reporting, and enable management to hold the entire organization accountable to all types of IT policies. For example:

-- Tripwire and BMC Remedy Change Management combined with BMC RBA
provide an automated change management process and control solution that
reduces change event processing from hours to minutes.
-- In this model, BMC RBA is triggered by a change event discovered by
Tripwire, which is then sent to BMC Remedy Change Management to assess
whether the event was a planned change within the system.
-- If the change was unplanned, a new ticket can be created within the
BMC Remedy Change Management system to escalate the change for
    investigation by the proper group.
-- Once the process is successfully completed, BMC RBA can automatically
    close the ticket.
-- Additionally, all changes detected by Tripwire are analyzed using
thousands of policy tests to ensure compliance with internal policy,
    external regulations, and industry standards.

This unified approach to Service Automation provides the means for IT to use existing technology more efficiently and effectively while managing risk by providing continuous, automated compliance in any data center environment. In fact, Tripwire is the only solution to provide visibility to all change in the enterprise, spanning servers, network devices, databases, directory services and virtual environments.

"The key to IT success is fully understanding your environment, putting it in a trusted state, keeping it there, and proving it," said Dan Schoenbaum, SVP Marketing and Corporate Development at Tripwire. "As a fundamental component of Service Automation, Tripwire is an extensible framework for existing change and configuration processes, automating policy conformance so that IT can reach sustained compliance and the benefits it brings."
