Turner Awarded $235 Million Contract for Second Phase of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - October 10, 2007) - Turner Construction Company has been awarded a $235 million contract to complete Phase 2 of construction on the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Colket Translational Research Building in Philadelphia, PA. Phased occupancy begins in 2009.

The hospital is undergoing one of the largest and most ambitious healthcare expansion projects in the nation. The expansion is the result of a significant growth in patient visits and to enable the hospital to fulfill its mission to be a leader in patient care, research and teaching.

The scope of work includes an eleven-story, 423,000 sq. ft. tower, which will contain the main building lobby, cafeteria and conference spaces, a support floor, four floors of laboratories, three floors of office space, and two mechanical floors. The exterior enclosure, building structure, vertical transportation and mechanical systems can be modified to support future expansion.

This project marks the continuation of a working relationship that began in the 1930s with construction of a five-story hospital building at the hospital's original location in the Graduate Hospital area.

Turner is nearing completion of Phase 1 of this facility, which is a shared, below-ground link that houses support functions including laboratories and a central utility plant capable of expansion to support the Phase 2 tower. Phase 1 represents approximately $150 million in construction volume.

"Turner is honored to continue our relationship with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and to play a role in fulfilling their master plan designed to accommodate the growth of the research program requirements of the Hospital. Our partnership with CHOP is very important to us and we are very appreciative of CHOP's continued confidence in our company and staff," said Michael J. Kuntz, Vice President and Regional General Manager of Turner's Philadelphia office.
