Two Home Energy Efficiency Workshops Set for August 14-16 in Durango, Colorado

DURANGO, CO--(Marketwire - August 1, 2008) - Home energy efficiency will be the focus for two innovative regional utility and consumer oriented workshops in Durango this month. The "Four Corners Utility Efficiency Exchange" will be immediately followed by a "Home Energy Makeover Workshop & Expo" from August 14-16, 2008 at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO.

Both events are co-hosted by the La Plata Electric, Empire Electric, and Tri-State Generation and Transmission Associations with Colorado Rural Electric Associations plus Colorado Association of Municipal Utilities. Event sponsors include: Convectair; Electric & Gas Industries Association; Rheem Marathon Water Heaters; Market Development Group; Service Concepts; Steffes Heating Systems; Western Area Power Administration; Modeltech; and Fraley and Company. Additional exhibitors for the consumer event include: Braxis Energy; Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency; Home Energy Advantage; Mantell-Hecathorn Builders; and Solar Today and Tomorrow. Market Development Group is providing event management and logistical support.

The Four Corners Utility Efficiency Exchange event goal is to facilitate a networking and professional development conference for staff of energy utilities and allies serving the Four Corners region who are responsible for developing and implementing customer programs related to energy efficiency, smart meters, demand response and renewable energy.

The Home Energy Makeover Workshop & Expo event goal is to acknowledge that all energy prices are rising and homeowners sometimes feel there is nothing they can do about it. The co-hosts want Four Corners area homeowners to know that home energy-saving improvements can pay for themselves. The co-hosts hope the consumer workshop will encourage area homeowners to install home energy-saving improvements themselves with products purchased from local retailers or they will choose to hire reputable professional installers.

The Saturday workshop's fast-moving agenda includes 25 brief presentations on home energy efficiency and renewable energy topics in the same room as exhibit displays from national and local providers of energy efficiency products and services. Admission is $15 per person at the door, but select non-profit community groups are selling advance admission tickets for just a $10 donation. The admission ticket includes one box lunch and door prize drawing entries. Free bus transportation will be available from the Empire Electric Association parking lot to Fort Lewis College.
