UCSD Deploys CollabNet TeamForge

Award-Winning Distributed ALM Platform Increases Software Quality and Improves Procedures, Processes, and Controls

BRISBANE, CA--(Marketwire - April 20, 2010) -  CollabNet®, the leader in Agile application lifecycle management (Agile ALM) in the Cloud, announced today that the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has deployed the CollabNet TeamForge™ ALM platform to increase the quality of the software it develops and to improve the procedures, processes, and controls associated with its software development effort. UCSD software developers, product managers, and project managers have used CollabNet TeamForge for more than 125 projects over the past year. Every new project uses the platform, beginning with a pre-built project template. More information about CollabNet TeamForge is available at

CollabNet TeamForge enables UCSD staff to track tasks, commitments, source code, documents, and other artifacts associated with software development projects, providing ready answers to questions such as "What were the requirements of this project?" and "Who gave approval for this project?" The product also ensures the participation of the wide range of UCSD teams that must contribute to the university's software development projects, including groups handling security, databases, and operations and, of course, end-users.

A significant factor in UCSD's selection of CollabNet TeamForge was the platform's flexible support for every development methodology. UCSD develops using Agile, waterfall, Scrum, and other methodologies, with an appropriate methodology selected on a project-by-project basis. UCSD also cited ease-of-use as a key factor in the adoption of the system. Users across disciplines have been able to get started quickly with project templates and an intuitive user interface that shortens the time it takes for any new user to learn the system.

Another factor in UCSD's selection was the tight integration of the many components of the CollabNet TeamForge ALM platform, including capabilities for software version control, bug tracking, requirements management, and release packaging, as well as collaboration tools, such as wikis, discussion forums, and document repositories.

"In our experience, point solutions don't integrate well to provide a complete ALM platform, whether assembled by an ISV or cobbled together with glue code," said Gabriel Lawrence, director, information technology security, UCSD. "CollabNet TeamForge was built from the ground up to be a fully integrated, end-to-end ALM platform, and it simply worked, right out of the box. Our use of CollabNet TeamForge has driven significant increases in software quality and enhanced our internal processes, enabling our team to satisfy our customers far more effectively."

"The Agile software development framework is being widely adopted, but most organizations, like UCSD, adopt it gradually, with Scrum- or waterfall-based projects still running," said Chris Clarke, vice president, product management and strategy, CollabNet. "CollabNet TeamForge is perfect for these environments, flexibly supporting the organization's choice of the right method for the right project."
