UFCW Canada Tsunami Fundraiser Sets $100,000 Goal

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 5, 2004) - UFCW Canada (United
Food and Commercial Workers Canada) is on its way to its fundraising
goal of $100,000 to support Tsunami relief efforts across South Asia.

The UFCW Canada Humanitarian Fund and the UFCW National Council kicked
off the campaign with a donation of $25,000 each, for a total donation
of $50,000 to the Canadian branch of Doctors Without Borders.

Donations from UFCW local unions across Canada have already added at
least another $10,000 in support for other relief agencies working in
the area including OXFAM and the Canadian Red Cross.

"I am proud of how UFCW Canada always comes to the aid of those in
need," said Michael J. Fraser, the national director of UFCW Canada.
"Over the past fifteen years our locals and their members have raised
over $7 million for
life-saving medical research here in Canada."

"We hope that our latest efforts can save more lives in the weeks and
months to come," said Fraser. " Many of our members have friends or
family that have been terribly affected by this tragedy and its time for
all of us to stand by them in solidarity and let them know that during
this difficult time we at UFCW Canada are thinking of them and offering
our support."

UFCW Canada is one of Canada's largest private sectors unions with over
230,000 members working in the food retailing and processing,
warehousing, security, hospitality, office, and health care sectors.
