UNICEF Canada and Pier 1 Imports Mark 20-Year Partnership

Proceeds from Holiday Cards Sold at Pier 1 Help Children Around the World

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 12, 2007) - This holiday season, UNICEF Canada and Pier 1 Imports are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their partnership to help save and improve the lives of children worldwide. Pier 1 began selling UNICEF greeting cards in its Canadian stores in 1987 and is now the world's largest retailer of UNICEF greeting cards. This year's card selections are now available for purchase at Pier 1 stores.

"In the first year of our partnership, we raised a modest $22,000. Now, as we move into our 20th year of working together with Pier 1 Imports, the total value of cards sold in their Canadian stores has reached $2.7 million," said UNICEF Sales & Marketing Director Jerry Seligman. "We are very proud to be associated with Pier 1 Imports. The hard work and dedication of their staff has played a large role in the overwhelming success of our greeting card sales."

One hundred percent of proceeds from the sale of all UNICEF cards sold at Pier 1 go toward UNICEF programs that aim to save, protect and enhance the lives of girls and boys in more than 150 countries.

The partnership has continued to evolve in other ways as well. Pier 1, UNICEF Canada and Owlkids recently introduced an annual children's art contest in Canada that has been very successful in the United States for the past 15 years. The contest runs in March and early April and helps raise children's awareness of UNICEF Canada's work worldwide. Children 13 years of age and under are invited to submit original artwork depicting their interpretation of the contest theme.

This year an eight-year-old from Three Hills, Alberta was the winner. The winning entry, titled "A Cold Day," was selected based on the design, colour and interpretation of the contest theme "Holiday Happiness." The winning artwork has been reproduced as a real UNICEF greeting card for the 2007 holiday season and is sold exclusively at Pier 1 stores in Canada.
