UPI Energy LP: Automakers' Calls to Ottawa Applauded by Fuel Retailer

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 7, 2007) - Guelph based UPI Energy LP, a province-wide retailer of environmentally friendlier fuels, is pleased to hear that the Canadian auto manufacturers and the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association ("CVMA") are calling on the Federal Government to facilitate the wider availability of 'greener' fuels for motorists. In a CVMA issued statement, Canada's automakers are responsible for bringing over 70 new and environmentally friendlier options in vehicle technologies to the market in the past two years. With automakers now offering consumers 28 Flex Fuel vehicles capable of running on gasoline blended with up to 85% ethanol (E85), it is more important than ever for the advancement of the renewable fuels movement to provide motorists with greater access to 'greener' gasolines. As Canada's only retailer of E85, UPI applauds the CVMA and the Canadian auto manufacturers for their efforts in promoting 'greener' vehicle alternatives to consumers.

UPI feels the expanded availability of environmentally friendlier fuels, such as E85, will help to increase consumer awareness, further advance the Canadian renewable fuels industry and give consumers the opportunity to fully reap the benefits being provided by Canada's auto manufacturers. "UPI's vision of a 'greener' highway, spanning from one end of the province to the other, would provide consumers with greater access to environmentally friendlier fuels and allow each and everyone of us to do our part to reduce greenhouse gases," comments UPI President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Robert P. Sicard.

From launching Ethanol-blended gasolines, to its province-wide gas bar network in 1993, well over a decade before any government mandate, UPI knows firsthand the benefits that can be attained by offering consumers environmentally friendlier choices at the gas pumps. UPI's Ethanol-blended gasolines (E10), today a blend of 10% ethanol and 90% unleaded gasoline, reduce harmful carbon monoxide emissions by up to 30% and contain fuel ethanol made from Ontario grown corn, benefiting the agricultural sector and reducing our dependency on crude oil, a non-renewable resource. It is estimated that since 1992, over 15 million bushels of corn have been used in the production of ethanol for UPI's Ethanol-blended gasolines, thus providing Ontarians with significant environmental benefits. "Increasing the quantity of ethanol in our fuels will further help to decrease our dependency on crude oil," says Sicard.

In January 2007, UPI further demonstrated its commitment to the renewable fuels movement with the introduction of E85 at the company's Wellington Road 124 Gas Bar in Guelph. Six months later, the product offering at the company's Park Avenue Gas Bar in Chatham was also expanded to include E85. Currently, E85 is only available to the general public at these two UPI locations. UPI is exploring E85 offerings both to the east and north of Toronto and, remains optimistic that it may become far more feasible with the support of various levels of government. "The advancement and availability of environmentally friendlier fuels have taken great strides and have come a long way since UPI first introduced Ethanol blends well over a decade ago," comments UPI's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We cannot stop looking for greener alternatives and, everyone must do their part as environmental stewards to pave the way for a healthier tomorrow to benefit our children and the lives of their children."

UPI, a Joint Venture of Suncor Energy Products Inc. and GROWMARK, Inc., is a province-wide marketer of petroleum, propane, lubricants and related energy services to rural Ontario. UPI is renowned for its leadership and innovation in the marketing of environmentally friendlier fuels such as, Ethanol blends, made with Ontario grown corn, and biodiesel, made with soybean oil. With the 2007 launch of E85, a blend of up to 85% ethanol and UPI's high quality gasoline, UPI is the only retailer in Canada offering the fuel to the general public.
