The U.S. Green Building Council Awards GFC Development's Endicott Residences LEED Silver Certification for Green Homebuilding

WESTON, MA--(Marketwire - December 8, 2009) - GFC Development Corp., a diversified, green real estate developer and multi-award winning contractor, announced today that its groundbreaking, eco-friendly construction project, Endicott Residences, was awarded LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for achievement in green homebuilding and design. LEED-certified homes complete a technically rigorous process that includes a home energy (HERS) rating and on-site inspections to verify that the home is built to be energy and water efficient, environmentally sound, and a healthier environment.

"As a LEED certified home, GFC's Endicott Residences is a model for greener living for the entire community," said Nate Kredich, Vice President of Residential Market Development for the U.S. Green Building Council. "The home is at the national forefront of quality; and GFC's example can help us all to live better by reducing our environmental footprint, cutting our utility bills, and coming home to a healthier place to live."

Located at 57 Endicott Avenue in Somerville, Endicott Residences is one of 40 local homes to carry the LEED Silver Home certification. Architect The MZO Group and environmental consultant Conservation Services Group worked closely with GFC Development to create this contemporary, three-unit loft-style green condominium. Endicott Residences was completed in June of 2009 and was sold out within one month of listing.

Charles Aggouras, president of GFC Development Corp., said, "Endicott Residences' LEED Silver certification represents a major achievement in our growing environmental construction business. We are excited to be part of the national movement toward sustainable, healthier living, starting in our home city of Boston."

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, green homes can substantially lower utility bills, may qualify for advantageous financing, lower insurance rates and government incentives. Endicott Residences features cellulose and icenyne high efficiency insulation; large Marvin, Low Energy Star Windows; an Energy Star Carrier HVAC System; flooring made from 100% renewable bamboo; a white membrane roofing system to reduce heating and cooling costs; low VOC paint and carpets; compact, energy-saving florescent lighting; FSC certified decking and low flow water fixtures.
