UTU, CN to continue labour negotiations

CLEVELAND, OHIO, and MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 18, 2005) -
United Transportation Union (UTU) International President Paul C.
Thompson and CN President and Chief Executive Officer E. Hunter Harrison
jointly issued the following statement today:

"The UTU and CN are optimistic that continued negotiations will allow
both parties to overcome differences and reach a positive settlement.

"Accordingly, the union and company have agreed not to make further
public statements about bargaining as long as contemplated negotiations
continue."

The United Transportation Union is the largest rail and transportation
union in North America with 125,000 members. It represents all of the
historical operating crafts as well as yardmasters, bus operators,
