Union blasts newspaper for printing fiction on new agreement.

Neepawa Press reports 8 year old information as details on new agreement at Springhill Farms.

Attention: Agriculture Editor, City Editor, Food/Beverage Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, PRESS RELEASE--(Marketwire - Feb. 4, 2010) - The union became aware of a front page story regarding the tentative deal at Springhill Farms that was published by the Neepawa Press. The newspaper reported that it obtained the contract information from a "pro-union website", unfortunately the information that was posted on that website was from two collective agreements ago in 2002.

The union would like the members working at Springhill Farms to disregard the front page story from the Neepawa Press on February 3, written by publisher Todd Hamilton as it is purely fiction.

"It is unfortunate that the newspaper did not contact me, our communications director, or the company as we would have at least commented on the information they had and helped them avoid this embarrassing circumstance" stated UFCW Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Traeger.

The article states the union did not return phone calls to the paper for comment but no voicemail was left by the paper.

The union is encouraging all Springhill Farms members to come to the information session set for February 8 at 2:00p.m. and 4:30p.m. at the Yellowhead Centre in Neepawa to hear the tentative agreement the negotiating committee reached on January 29.

Calls from the union to the Neepawa Press to correct their story have not been returned once the press realized their error.
