Unite Condemn Health Trusts Plans to Close Psychotherapy Departments

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Jan. 22, 2008) - Unite the Union will today (Wednesday 23rd Jan) speak out against proposals in a consultation document put forward by Derbyshire Mental Health Trust at a public meeting.

The proposals, which include closing two well-established Psychotherapy Departments, have been developed without any input from specialist clinical staff working in Psycho Therapy and Unite.

Derbyshire Mental Health Services Patient and Public Involvement Forum have called a meeting for staff tonight to discuss the changes that will be made to services and how they will affect staff and patients.

Representatives from the Mental Health Trust, Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust and Sally Fairbrace from Unite will be there to speak on the proposals and listen to people's views.

Sally Fairbrace, Unite Regional Officer, said:

"We believe the consultation document is inaccurate and misleading due to the lack of involvement of clinical staff. The plans outlined in the document lack necessary detail, are misinformed and are underpinned by unsupported assertions."

The meeting is from 6pm - 8pm, Room 5, 1st floor Derby City Council, Council House Corporation Street, Derby, DE1 2ZL.

Press and public are welcome to attend.
