Unite the Union Reaction to Speculation That the Scottish Government Will Oppose an Application for Europe's Biggest Wind Farm

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Jan. 25, 2008) -

Unite Scottish Regional Secretary, John Quigley, says,

"If this proposed wind farm is refused permission, the government's energy policy will descend into complete shambles.

The SNP seem to be facing two directions at once and trying to sustain a schizophrenic energy policy. Alex Salmond has already made clear his opposition to new nuclear power stations but now it looks like Government ministers will reject plans to build one of Europe's most significant renewable energy projects.

The tragedy is that in the medium to long term it will be Scotland's economy that will suffer. We'll see less investment and fewer jobs, with the ultimate indignity of the lights going out sooner rather than later."
