Unite launches campaign to support Northern Rock

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2007) -

Unite the Union has launched a campaign in the North East to raise awareness of the importance of Northern Rock for the local economy.

The Unite campaign will highlight the importance of the Northern Rock Foundation and its support for charities, community groups and local arts projects.

Unite Deputy General Secretary and Head of Finance Sector, Graham Goddard says: "Unite has written to MPs and Councillors across the North East in order to seek their support for the future of Northern Rock as an independent North East based bank. Additionally we will be contacting business leader's, sports personalities and the general public to pledge their support for the employees of Northern Rock."

The Unite campaign aims to secure the future of Northern Rock as an independent single entity in order to protect the jobs. As well as seeking pledges of support from local MPs, Unite will be launching a publicity and leafleting campaign in City Centre's across the region asking members of the public to pledge their support to Northern Rock.
