United Nations Group Selects Clay Tablet Technologies for Document Translation

TORONTO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 25, 2006 -- A division of the United Nations (UN) has selected Clay Tablet Technologies, a provider of innovative translation workflow software, to help it translate content more efficiently.

A group in the UN's Norway operations struggled with a bottleneck in its daily processes for years. Information arrived in one language, but had to be quickly sent out in another, every day. Clay Tablet's software was chosen to help the UN send and receive documents to and from professional translators quickly and easily, while being able to track any given document's progress along the way.

Employees responsible for marketing, publishing, and communicating to the local Norwegian community were being impeded by news feeds coming in from head office in New York that needed to be translated into Norwegian for local publishing. Translation had to happen quickly for the international news to remain current, so internal resources found themselves spending hours each day performing these translations in-house. There was frustration over delays in getting the news out, and tension over employees investing considerable time doing work they were not hired to do.

The UN chose Toronto-based Clay Tablet's Rosetta Trans-port™ translation portal, used in concert with a local translation partner, to allow employees to submit English articles and documents to an online portal, check their progress at any time, and receive them back in accurate Norwegian only a couple of hours later -- time enough to distribute the articles to the general public ahead of competing media houses. The solution is saving the organization time and gaining it competitive advantage.

"It's such a relief to not have to worry about internal translations anymore. Clay Tablet's tool is so simple, we just mark our content for translation, and it comes back to us quickly enough to ensure we are first to market. It's strange to think of the amount of administrative time we were wasting before now," says Hasse Berntsen, Director of the UN's ILO Group in Oslo.

Clay Tablet's Trans-port manages the flow of documents to and from in-house or outsourced translators, and keeps organizations updated on the ongoing status of individual translation jobs. Files to be translated are automatically queued and merged into a translation service provider's workflow. Trans-port is the latest in a suite of products from Clay Tablet called Rosetta that provide faster, less expensive ways to keep content current in multiple languages, regardless of where it resides, what format it's in or what number of target languages are required.
