United Way of Greater Toronto turns 50!

United Way to launch 2006 fundraising goal and 50th anniversary celebrations at AGM Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, City Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(CCNMatthews - May 23, 2006) - We don't look a day over 49! United Way of Greater Toronto is launching its golden anniversary celebrations and announcing its 2006 fundraising campaign goal in style on May 24 at its annual general meeting (AGM). A larger-than-life visual reveal of the goal announcement will offer a great photo opportunity that links to a 1950s nostalgia theme.

Special guests include keynote speaker The Honourable Mary Anne Chambers, Minister of Children and Youth Services; Mayor David Miller, who will present the Thanks a Million Awards to outstanding companies; Rick Waugh, President and CEO, Scotiabank and 2006 United Way Campaign Chair; and Frances Lankin, President and CEO, United Way of Greater Toronto.

Hundreds of volunteers, donors, employees and representatives from agencies will help celebrate this milestone occasion at The Carlu, the original venue where United Way's first meeting was held in 1956 (then called the Eaton Auditorium).

After celebrating an outstanding $96.1 million achievement from the 2005 campaign, United Way is aiming for another record-breaking year to mark its 50th anniversary.
