VFA Educational Seminar for the Federal Government Focuses on Turning Facilities Data Into Actionable Capital Plans

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - December 15, 2009) - VFA, Inc., the leading provider of end-to-end solutions for facilities capital planning and spend management, sponsored a seminar for federal facilities management professionals to help them create capital plans that meet real property and sustainability mandates.

VFA's seminar event on December 9, 2009 featured Thom Kurmel, colonel, Medical Service Corps, U.S. Army (Retired), formerly the senior advisor to the assistant secretary for health affairs in the Office of the Under Secretary for Personnel and Readiness at the Pentagon, as well as Bill Shah from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), who discussed approaches to generating and analyzing defensible data to create actionable capital plans. The following topics were covered:

-- Strategies for maintaining an accurate inventory of real property
    assets across a facility portfolio, including deficiencies, costs and
    projected funding needs;
-- Ways to objectively prioritize competing projects based on
    organizational goals and mission;
-- Methods for integrating sustainability programs and green requirements
    into the capital planning process;
-- How to report on key performance metrics (i.e. Facility Condition
    Index and Replacement Cost Value) with customized reports and dashboards.

"To comply with federal mandates, it's important for government agencies to maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of assets -- and to understand how those assets support their mission," said Jerry Kokos, president and CEO, VFA, Inc. "The senior government professionals that attended the seminar received valuable information on streamlining the process for complying with federal real property management and sustainability requirements."
