VMware Hardening Policies Now Available for Tripwire Enterprise for VMware ESX Server

New Hardening Policies Allow VMware Users to Ensure Security and Compliance of Virtual Infrastructure

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - April 24, 2008) - With Tripwire Enterprise for VMware ESX Server, enterprises achieve and maintain a trusted state across their virtual infrastructure. Expanding the breadth and depth of policies available for users of Tripwire Enterprise for VMware ESX Server gives organizations managing virtual infrastructure added value in ensuring the security and compliance of their VMware environments. VMware ESX Server is the hypervisor product within VMware Infrastructure, the market-leading virtualization software suite.

VMware hardening guidelines outline recommended steps to ensure that VMware environments are properly secured, explaining in detail ideal security-related configurations for VMware components. Tripwire has automated these policies, allowing VMware ESX Server customers to automatically assess the configuration state of their systems, providing them with immediate insight into risks that might exist within their virtual environment.

"Working closely with VMware to automate ESX Server best practice recommendations into Tripwire Enterprise allows customers to quickly and effectively operationalize VMware's hardening guidelines," said Dan Schoenbaum, Tripwire Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development. "This allows operations and security teams to work closely together to ensure a safe, known configuration state for their virtual environment, enabling the teams to benefit from the agility and flexibility of virtualization without sacrificing security or compliance."

With the new VMware hardening policies, Tripwire Enterprise for VMware ESX Server agentlessly provides continuous compliance out-of-the-box according to VMware recommended best practice security standards. Tripwire uniquely marries these policies with the ability to detect all changes to their infrastructure that are not in compliance with security policies to proactively ensure the hypervisor remains in a trusted state at all times. The new VMware hardening policies join CIS policies for the VMware hypervisor which Tripwire introduced in February 2008. The two sets of policies combine to provide the best practices of the Center for Internet Security and VMware all in one solution. In addition, users can create custom policies, automating policy-based management of internal best practices to meet individual organizations' unique needs.
