V!VA Retirement Communities Celebrates Groundbreaking of Vaughan's Newest Retirement Residence

Construction and Operation to Generate Hundreds of Jobs

VAUGHAN, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 23, 2010) - The corner of Bathurst Street and Lebovic Campus Drive has seen an enormous amount of activity over the last few years with the development of the Lebovic Community Campus. Today, politicians, community leaders and neighbours from throughout Vaughan gathered at the northwest corner of this booming intersection to celebrate the latest addition to their growing neighbourhood - V!VA Thornhill Woods Retirement Community.

"I'm delighted to welcome V!VA Retirement Communities to the City of Vaughan," said Mayor Linda Jackson. "The V!VA Thornhill Woods project will help stimulate our local economy by generating many new jobs. Above all, seniors and their families throughout Vaughan will certainly benefit from having this state-of-the-art retirement residence in the heart of our community." V!VA Thornhill Woods Retirement Community will create nearly 60 new well-paying jobs once it opens, in addition to the hundreds of jobs during its construction phase.

Slated to open in late 2011, the seven-storey V!VA Thornhill Woods Retirement Community will offer 134 spacious rental suites ranging in size from studio to two bedroom, allowing seniors to select from an Independent Living or Assisted Living suite package. All suites will feature a kitchenette, large walk-in closets to accommodate those downsizing from larger homes, a walk-in shower with seat and grab-bars, and 24-hour emergency call buttons. V!VA Community Members will enjoy three freshly prepared V!VAlicious meals daily and access to V!VA's impressive array of thoughtful services and amenities, including an indoor heated saltwater pool, V!VAfit strength and stretch rooms, V!VAplex movie theatre, Pints! fully-licensed pub, Perks! bistro-cafe and the V!VA Victory Garden with raised planters for easy, ache-free gardening.

"At V!VA, we design and manage our properties to enrich the lives of seniors with a clear focus on pro-active wellness," explained Jordan Bernamoff, V!VA Retirement Communities' President & CEO, "As with all of our communities, V!VA Thornhill Woods will have outstanding amenities, spacious suites and exceptional food. However, what really makes a V!VA retirement community unique is our Team. The V!VA Thornhill Woods Team will carry on our purpose of Making Today Great! for our Community Members and their families."

V!VA Thornhill Woods will also be constructed and operated in accordance with the company's environmental-friendly policy, V!VAearth. "With water-based paints, low-flush toilets and compact florescent lighting throughout the entire property, we are considerably reducing the affect our construction has on the environment," explained Michael Loconte, V!VA's Director of Construction.

The overall development will consist of two phases: the rental retirement community will be built first, followed by an adjoining 15-storey condominium in the years to follow. The project is being co-developed by Madison Homes and V!VA Retirement Communities, and the rental retirement community will be proudly managed by V!VA Retirement Communities.

"Madison Homes has been building homes in Thornhill for many years. We are thrilled to partner with V!VA in bringing a new level of retirement community to this very special neighbourhood," said Miguel Singer, President of Madison Homes.

With over 40 years of experience, Madison Homes has developed and built award-winning homes throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
