Valentines Gifts Must be Covered by Home Insurance

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 15, 2010) - With Valentine's Day just around the corner modern day Romeo's are being urged to make sure any expensive gifts they plan to lavish on their sweethearts are covered by their insurance.

Swinton, the leading high street retailer of home insurance is offering some tips on how to protect their gifts this Valentine's Day.

According to confetti.co.uk, the average engagement ring costs £1,800. An expensive gift like an engagement ring should be insured before it even leaves the shop in case it is lost or stolen on the way home. Most home insurance policies will include this under the personal possessions away from the home section of the policy but always check before making a purchase.

Other expensive gifts also need to be properly insured, if it is worth a certain amount then it is vital that the home insurance provider is informed so that the gifts are not under insured or worse still, not insured at all.

Steve Chelton, insurance development manager for Swinton, said "The romance could be swept out of the weekend if an engagement ring or expensive gift is lost or stolen without being properly insured. It is vital that you check your policy wording to make sure it is protected or take out additional insurance if it is required."
