Valentine's Survey by SHOP.COM™ Predicts Digital Displays of Affection

MONTEREY, CA--(Marketwire - February 12, 2010) - More than one-third of women surveyed by SHOP.COM, the comparison shopping site for busy women, plan to text message their sentiments this Valentine's Day, while 28 percent will send an e-card, and 20 percent will post a Valentine's message on a Facebook wall. Yet, 36 percent of those surveyed said that a traditional dinner at home with their significant other is the preferred way of celebrating February 14 this year.

When it comes to gift-giving, all is not fair in love. Some 45 percent said that there is a double-standard among genders, with 46 percent of men claiming they never receive anything for Valentine's Day. When asked about their ideal gift, more than half of respondents chose a romantic weekend getaway. Diamonds or other jewelry (49 percent), roses (43 percent), and a homemade dinner (47 percent) also received top votes from women.

"Traditional gifts will carry a lot of weight this year," predicted Simona Supekar, Communications Manager for SHOP.COM. SHOP.COM's survey also showed that singles should not fear lonely feelings on Valentine's Day, as an overwhelming 49 percent will send a Valentine to someone other than their significant other, including their kids (49 percent) and best friends (28 percent). Women dreaming of a celebrity Valentine would choose to spend the day with George Clooney (24 percent).
