LA PRAIRIE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 17, 2009) - Vanstar Mining Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:VSR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Gilles Laverdiere as President and CEO of the company, beginning January 1st, 2010.

Mr Laverdiere is a Professional Geologist and holds a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Montreal (1978) and a Certificate in Environment from the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue (1996). Mr Laverdiere brings to the company in excess of 30 years of experience in exploration, development and financing of mining projects.

He worked for various mining exploration companies, including Aur Resources Inc., until 1984, when he founded his own geological consulting firm. As such, he has managed many exploration and development programs in Abitibi and he also participated in financing mining companies. From 1991 to 1997, he participated in exploration projects in the Philippines, Nevada (Carlin Trend) and Brazil. From 1997 to 2006, his involvement has turned to China where he founded HMZ Metals, a polymetallic producer which also operates a copper refinery and whose income exceeded $ 15 million annually. Since 2006, he has been consulting geologist on projects in Abitibi.

Mr. Laverdiere will replace Mr. Guy Morissette who has held the position of CEO since the start of operations of Vanstar. Mr. Morissette will remain as a Director, replacing Mr. Luc Pelletier. The Board wishes to acknowledge the involvement and contribution of Mr. Pelletier who is stepping down for personal reasons.
