Veterans Affairs Minister Denounces Damage to Cenotaph in Cornwall

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 14, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement today on damage to a cenotaph in Cornwall, Ontario, which pays tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War:

"Cenotaphs across Canada honour the men and women who have served this country-in times of conflict and in times of peace. They sacrificed their lives to protect our shared values of peace, freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

"The senseless damage to this memorial in Cornwall dishonours the memory of these brave men and women. It saddens the entire community, and I join all Canadians in denouncing this act of disrespect."
