Via Salzburg's Christmas Offering Features Violin Prodigy Kerson Leong

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 4, 2009) - In 1999, violinist Mayumi Seiler set out to fulfill her musical vision of a Toronto-based chamber music ensemble that would fuse the extraordinary talents of both Canadian and international musicians with string-oriented repertoire spanning from the Baroque to the contemporary. Thus was born Via Salzburg, an ensemble that is now in its eleventh season, having performed an impressive array of groundbreaking concerts to critical acclaim.

Via Salzburg's second concert of the season will feature special guest artist, violin prodigy Kerson Leong of Ottawa. Kerson is 12 years old and has won the Grand Prize at the Canadian Music Competition for five straight years (2005-2009), each time achieving the highest mark of any age group or instrument. He was recognized in the Galaxie Rising Star Program of the CBC and was also the youngest finalist in the 2006 nationwide CBC Mozart Variation Contest held to celebrate Mozart's 250th birthday anniversary.

Celebration and Contemplation will feature Christmas music from the Baroque to the present, with a special performance of a work by Imant Raminsh, which was commissioned by Via Salzburg in 2003.
