Vigilant Announces SIEM Value-Accelerator Assessment Offering

Security Evaluation Defines Gaps and Actions for Critical 2010 Planning

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - November 18, 2009) - Vigilant LLC, a provider of on-site and managed IT security services, today announced its Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) Value-Accelerator Assessment (VAA) offering, a limited-time engagement intended to quickly assess a company's current security monitoring capabilities against key business drivers and policies. The SIEM VAA solution identifies material weaknesses or gaps and outlines a recommended program and deployment to address those issues and ensure that the SIEM implementation supports client business objectives. With an estimated engagement time of less than four weeks, the SIEM VAA offering is ideal for companies who are looking to improve security operations in early 2010 -- or those looking for a fresh perspective on their security efficiency.

While SIEM technology is vital for enabling real-time, enterprise-wide visibility into security operations, many companies still struggle to deploy these products successfully. A number of different issues keep companies from realizing the true value of these systems, including unanticipated implementation and operational complexities, or the lack of a well-defined program or the experienced staff to drive execution and management. In fact, according to the April 2009 Aberdeen Report, "Leveraging Logs, Information and Events: Three Use Cases for What to Do with All That Data," by Derek Brink, only a small number of SIEM customers are getting quantifiable results from the technology, as measured by decreases in security incidents, audit deficiencies and operational costs. Tangible improvements in these measures are elusive for roughly 80 percent of the remaining customers. Having helped scores of customers achieve the full potential of SIEM technology, Vigilant designed the SIEM VAA to help new investors in SIEM get started on the right path, and help those who may be ready to give up on their SIEM solution to achieve and exceed the benefits they originally envisioned.

"A well-developed SIEM can not only help security operations teams to function more efficiently when inadequate staffing is a problem, but it can provide teams with the insight necessary to really align security with the business," said Alison Andrews, chief executive officer (CEO), Vigilant. "Now is the perfect time for any company who's looking for a security pulse check to take stock of what they have, where they are and how that maps to where they want to be. Companies that have previously failed to maximize the value of security investments are also poised to succeed in 2010 by utilizing the quick evaluation of the SIEM Value-Accelerator Assessment."

Vigilant uses the Target Capabilities Model (TCM) tool, which identifies what a company's capabilities should be, to help align clients' business objectives with the underlying functional and technical SIEM deployment requirements. TCM's are unique to each client environment and requirements, and provides a common point of reference throughout the service engagement to ensure recommendations are clearly understood. While the engagement level can vary depending on a client's needs, Vigilant ensures that objectives are clearly defined in the beginning and met in the end by gathering information about the client infrastructure, inventory, operations, support, incident response, metrics and reporting. From there, an experienced team compares current capabilities to the TCM and identifies the existing gaps to outline the actions needed to remediate each issue. Clients then receive a recommended roadmap or plan to follow or implement, depending on their level of need.
