TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 25, 2009) -

Attention: Social / Food / Entertainment / Editors

"GET A TASTE OF AFRICA" with the tastes, and sounds of afro-centric cultures as BLOORCOURT VILLAGE COMES ALIVE. The 2009 AfriVillage Festival, will feature National Jazz Award Recipient Archie Alleyne at 1pm on the Village Stage at Shaw and Bloor.

Anchored by the numerous African restaurants that exist on Bloor Street West between Ossington and Crawford Streets, the third annual AfriVillage Festival presents the city as a way of showcasing diversity, with a focus mainly on African Culinary culture. Live Performances by local musical bands, poets, playwrights, and more will take place on the Village Stages. Then take a village walk along the market as numerous vendors showcase their respective foods, arts and crafts. AfriVillage Festival is a two day multicultural celebration, which will showcase cultural diversity in harmony. The street closure will be used to shine the spotlight on Bloorcourt village community with an emphasis primarily on food tasting, as well as arts and crafts vendors. As a family oriented event, we plan to have an African Culture Discovery area for young ages and a live entertainment stage. This event will be inclusive of all businesses along the street that want to participate, even if they are not of African heritage. We are expecting between 3,000 - 5,000 attendees per day. The Bloorcourt Village area as it is known has many African Restaurants and had already been on Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone's mandate for promotion. Upon receiving an enthusiastic approval from the city, the 1st annual "AfriVillage Fest" was launched in 2007 with great success.
