Ville de Chateauguay: Weather Advisory Message, Risk of Heavy Precipitation and Flooding

CHATEAUGUAY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 7, 2008) - The City of Chateauguay would like to inform the public that it is closely monitoring the waterways and asks that those who live near the river pay close attention to the water level.

Residents who live along the river, as well as other residents who are susceptible to the risk of floods, are asked to prepare for the possible deterioration of the situation. It is recommended that they ensure that sump pumps are functioning properly.

When there is a risk of flooding, it is always wise to avoid any over-consumption of water and move valuable possessions to upper floors. These are some of the suggestions contained in a folder entitled "Floods and Heavy Rains". The folder is available in the municipal buildings, by contacting the communications section of the services to the citizens department at 450.698.3004, or by visiting the municipal Web site at www.ville.chateauguay.qc.ca, click on Publications, then Emergency Measures.

Residents of Chateauguay can consult the Hydro Meteo Internet site at www.hydrometeo.com for information on the Chateauguay River and any developments in the situation (ice, flood, etc.) or call 450.698.3333, day or night.

The municipality is also asking the public to not risk going out onto the Chateauguay River as the ice is thin in some parts and could give way.

The City of Chateauguay remains on the alert.
