Violin Memory, Microsoft and HP Post a Leadership TPC-E Benchmark Result

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - June 29, 2010) -  Violin Memory, Inc., provider of the world's fastest and most scalable memory arrays, has achieved a leading Blade Server TPC-E benchmark in partnership with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and HP's latest ProLiant blade server offering. The TPC-E benchmark simulates the workload of a brokerage firm's central database. This benchmark demands both low latencies and fast response times. It is utilized by vendors to demonstrate system solutions for realistic and representative workloads commonly addressed by large OLTP systems.

The full benchmark results are available at http://www.tpc.org/tpce/results/tpce_result_detail.asp?id=110062101.

"The combination of Violin Memory Arrays and the trusted and scalable SQL Server 2008 data platform software demonstrated a new level of response times and excellent price per transaction (Price/TpsE) numbers," said Claude Lorenson, Director, Business Platform Division at Microsoft Corp.

"As demonstrated by the TPC-E benchmark process, Violin Memory Arrays facilitate dramatic application acceleration of critical business applications," said Don Basile, CEO Violin Memory. "SQL Server 2008 is a recognized database leader in demanding low-latency business solutions. These results demonstrate the performance and efficiency benefits now available from solid-state Memory Arrays, as opposed to using thousands of spinning disks aggregated together."

"Violin is in a unique position to benefit from the dollars allocated to solid-state memory systems versus disk drive arrays," said Jim Bagley, Senior Analyst at Storage Strategies Now. "The TPC-E benchmark demonstrated sustained response times 10 times faster than other storage systems, which underscores the unique flash management technology Violin has developed for the 3200 series product line."
