Vision Critical Releases 2009 Wealth Management Firm Rankings

Comprehensive year-end rankings reveal top wealth management firms to more than 20,000 Canadian investors in an extensive annual study of Canadian Wealth.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 19, 2010) - Canadian investors chose ScotiaMcLeod, RBC Dominion Securities and Desjardins Securities as the top wealth management firms in their categories, according to Vision Critical's 2009 Wealth Management Index(TM). The report provides insight regarding the values, attitudes and behaviours of Canadian investors. It's the first of its kind, in scope and size, surveying more than 20,000 Canadian investors over the course of a year.

"As stability returns to the markets, so does the positive investor sentiment toward the advisor," says Demitry Estrin, Senior Vice President of Vision Critical's Financial Services practice. "Over the last few quarters we've tracked a consistent increase in investor satisfaction with their advisors. As sentiment improves, we also continue to see a decrease in percent of investors investigating other advisor options."

Results of the wealth management firm rankings are broken down by investor affluence:

- ScotiaMcLeod ranked number one among Canadians with $250K or more in investable assets.

- RBC Dominion Securities took the top spot among investors with $100K to 250K in assets.

- Desjardins Securities topped the rankings among those with $25K to $100K in investable assets.

The Wealth Management rankings are based on investor loyalty to those firms, with loyalty measured by three core components: share of assets allocated to the advisor, tenure (or how long the investor has been with the advisor), and overall satisfaction with the advisor.

"This is the most in-depth look at the wealth management industry," says Estrin. "It details every facet of the relationship that Canadian investors have with their financial advisors and provides unprecedented insight into the mindset of the investor, when it comes to financial planning and economic outlook. "

In addition to ranking financial advisors, the 2009 Wealth Management Index(TM) includes profiles of regional wealth distribution, investment profiles and attitudes toward both wealth management and the current economic outlook. Further results from the WMI will be released next week.
